Anti-burning properties
The combustion resistance of phenolic foam mainly includes two aspects. One is the ability to prevent flame diffusion, that is, the heat insulation material will generate flame locally, and the flame will not spread and go out by itself. The other is the adiabatic performance of the material itself. Even if one side of the material burns, the temperature on the other side will not rise higher and cause the fire to expand. Compared with polystyrene foam and polyurethane foam, it has two characteristics: one is no dripping phenomenon when it catches fire; The second is to form a dense carbon layer on the surface when it catches fire. This prevents further combustion of the foam.
The French Center of Construction Science and Technology has tested phenolic foam comprehensively and proved that it has good flame resistance. For example, when the flame of up to 3000ºC is directed at the foam board by welding gun, there is no obvious heat sensation transmitted to the back of the board and no high-temperature thermal decomposition and smoke phenomenon is produced after 2 minutes.
